The Dallas Cowboys are coming off arguably their best win of the season after inching past the New Orleans Saints 13-10 on Thursday night.

It was a performance that was fueled by their defense that has been the backbone of the team throughout the season. According to veteran NFL reporter Ed Werder, the Cowboys have the only defense in the league that has allowed fewer than 30 points in each game played this season.

This is quite an impressive feat given that there has been an increase in offensive production around the league this season where that has seen the top teams in the league being led by that side of the ball. Meanwhile, Dallas has seen their defense continue to step it up by becoming one of the top units in the league ranking 10th overall, along with being seventh against the pass, third against the run, and second with 18.6 points per game allowed.

The Cowboys put on full display against the Saints' high-powered offense by holding them to just 176 total offensive yards with 14 first downs, going 3-of-11 on third downs, and failed to convert both of their red zone trips. This featured star quarterback Drew Brees struggling to get anything going as he threw for 127 yards on 18-of-28 completed passes with a touchdown and an interception. There was also a lack of a true running game as Dallas bottled both Pro Bowl running backs Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.

Beyond their strong performance against the Saints, it is clear that the Cowboys have found their identity as a team defensively that can lead them to success against the best teams in the league. If anything, it gives them a chance to compete with any of other Super Bowl contenders in the league. It will be interesting to see if Dallas can carry the momentum they have built moving forward this season.
