Although the Dallas Cowboys have not been to a Super Bowl in more than two decades, the expectations have always remained as high as ever. Linebacker Jaylon Smith has proved that the championship mentality is still alive and well in Dallas.

The Cowboys have never been shy about expressing their high hopes every year. According to David Moore of SportsDay, Smith feels it is championship or but going into the 2019 NFL season:

“For me, it's always been about my clear-eye view and embracing each moment I was in,” Smith said. “From redshirting, to coming back and playing a little bit and getting better every week, to being dominant and now, on our quest to win the Super Bowl.”

Smith added that every team should feel the same way.

“That's why we play the game,” Smith said. “Any team in the National Football League, if that's not your goal, then you shouldn't be out here.

“We're focused each and every day on bettering ourselves.”

While there is no denying the importance of high expectations around this time of year, few teams are actually capable of seeing it through. The Cowboys could very well be one of them if they managed to build on their successful 2018 campaign.

Although Dallas was knocked out by the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional Round, their surge down the final stretch of the year has the team hopeful that they will be able to take that next step this time around. It is safe to say that the pairing of Smith and linebacker Leighton Vander Esch will be n integral part of any success the Cowboys enjoy moving forward.

Unfortunately, it appears as though they may have to begin their potential trip to the Super Bowl without their biggest star on offense in running back Ezekiel Elliott after recent reports suggest that contract negotiations have gone sour on both sides.
