The Dallas Cowboys are considered “America's Team” and are constantly given lofty expectations each and every season. However, the Cowboys haven't hoisted a Lombardi Trophy in quite some time and Jaylon Smith wants to change that.

While speaking about Dallas' upcoming season, Smith stated that the Cowboys have ‘something to prove' in 2020.

“We’ve got something to prove this year,” Smith said. “Not only this defense, but this entire team, man. It’s been too long since we won and that’s our focus.”

Just a season ago, it appeared that the Cowboys would have a clear shot to win the NFC East due to the bevy of injuries that the Philadelphia Eagles were experiencing. On the contrary, Dallas would lose to the Eagles in Week 16, causing them to finish the season with an 8-8 record. As a result, the Cowboys fell short of the postseason while the Eagles won the division.

For Smith, he is focused on helping Dallas live up to expectations and return to the playoffs in 2020. Despite the team's faults in other areas, Smith put together the best year of his career in 2019.

The versatile linebacker tallied career-highs in tackles (142), pass breakups (nine), and recorded the first interception of his career. Coming off of his stellar showing last season, Smith is anxious to get to work with Mike Nolan — Dallas' new defensive coordinator.

Looking at the Cowboys' roster on paper, they are the favorites to secure the NFC East title this season. In the past six seasons, Dallas has won their respective division three times. With that being said, Smith and the Cowboys have their sights on winning their first Super Bowl since 1995.
