Just a week after a devastating loss to the Tennessee Titans, Jason Garrett and the Dallas Cowboys pulled out a win on Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles, and that was enough for owner Jerry Jones to give his coach a vote of confidence. Garrett and the offense had a good gameplan in place leaning on Ezekiel Elliott and that led to a 27-20 victory.

“This is particularly rewarding,” Jones said of the win, via the Dallas Morning News. “We were being laid to bare. This past week and really building up to this past week, we were being really operated on and looked to see what's there. These guys, these players, and frankly Jason [Garrett] and these coaches, when we really cut really deep in this surgery they came out of here and looked like it's not terminal. Seriously. I'll be real clear about that.

“The criticism and the things that have been pointed to this week, throughout, whether it be the coach, whether it be the quarterback, whether it be any other part of this team, is not terminal. I've looked in the wound, and I like what I see.”

This really is the least shocking news to come out of the Cowboys wins because it seems Jones has been trying to make an excuse to keep Garrett around for another year. The Cowboys are still 4-5 and have an uphill climb to make the playoffs, but maybe all Jones is looking for is a spirited effort and that will be enough for Garrett to save his job.

It was a good sign that Garrett finally leaned on his best player and really tried to pound the rock. If the Cowboys can continue to do that, they will have a good chance to continue winning.
