Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is looking for a new contract, and after his stellar performance in the Cowboys' season-opening win over the New York Giants on Sunday, he may feel the process should be expedited.

Dallas owner Jerry Jones said on Sunday that a deal for Prescott is “imminent,” and speaking on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday; he clarified that just because it feels imminent to the front office doesn't mean it does for Prescott:

“It means ready to take place. Close. Near. About to happen. Those types of things,” said Jones. “I think we are fast approaching an agreement. … That might be my opinion. It might not be Dak's opinion.”

Prescott is in the final year of his current deal and is scheduled to earn $2.025 million.

The 26-year-old completed 25 of his 32 passes for 405 yards and four touchdowns without an interception in the club's 35-17 victory this past weekend in what was one of the best outings of his NFL career.

Prescott, who played his collegiate football at Mississippi State, was originally selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round (135th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Due to an injury to Tony Romo, Prescott was immediately pressed into starting duty during his rookie campaign and was impressive, leading Dallas to a 13-win season and making the Pro Bowl in the process.

After taking a bit of a step back in 2017, Prescott rebounded with a solid 2018, throwing for 3,885 yards, 22 touchdowns and eight picks while completing 67.7 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 96.9, helping the Cowboys win their second NFC East division title in three years and earning another Pro Bowl selection.
