The Dallas Cowboys are loaded with proven veterans at wide receiver. If Reggie Davis keeps performing at the level he has recently throughout the remainder of the offseason, though, the rising third-year pro might be impossible to keep off the field regardless.

An undrafted free agent in 2017, Davis recently drew rave reviews from Cowboys wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal for his performance during offseason team activities.

“He was probably our most improved (receiver),” Lul said, per Cowboys.com. “If we go back to when we got him last October/November, he’s probably the most improved guy on the team. He made a big jump this week.”

Davis was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad midway through last season after being waived by the Philadelphia Eagles. Though he never made the 53-man roster in 2018, Dallas nevertheless saw enough from Davis to re-sign him to a one-year deal in February.

Known for his speed first and foremost, the 5-foot-11, 170-pounder believes the biggest difference between last season and now is his additional nuance and understanding when it comes to route-running.

“It’s everything – being able to set up DBs, learning how to get in and out of breaks on certain routes, knowing how to tempo routes, change of pace,” Davis said of his improvement. “Sometimes you’ve got to slow things down in order to play faster.”

The Cowboys are led at wide receiver by Amari Cooper. Davis, 23, will fight with several other journeyman leading up to the regular season to earn one of the team's final roster spots.
