Following the surprising trade that landed him with the Brooklyn Nets, not a lot has been seen or heard from D’Angelo Russell about it. Outside of a tweet he posted last week, he has not spoken much on having a new team and had yet to be introduced in a press conference.

That changed when he made his first public appearance, and was seen inside the Barclays Center on Sunday, watching the Big3 League games together with some of his new teammates. When asked about playing for the Nets, he revealed, via Anthony Puccio of Nets Daily, that he is looking forward to the new challenge and being part of the team.

“I’m excited to get to work. It’s all kind of fresh to me, but I’m ready.”

Russell may not be considered a franchise-changer, but his arrival gives the Brooklyn faithful a lot of hope that their team’s fortunes can change soon. Together with Timofey Mozgov and other free agents they are expected to bring into their fold this summer, it will give them a chance to surpass their poor win-loss record from this past season and take a big step towards becoming a winning group again.

His statement also shows a lot of maturity beyond his years, as he has accepted his fate and is not complaining about it. The 21-year-old understands that he can learn from some of his new teammates on how to remain professional despite losing a lot of games, and maybe even play a big role in their quest to reach the playoffs again in the future.
