Even before Game 5 of the NBA Finals started, many expected it to be a highly-physical matchup as the Cleveland Cavaliers are trying their best to extend the series once again and bring the series back to Northeast Ohio for a sixth game.
It didn’t take long for emotions to get the better of some players as a skirmish occurred involving David West and Tristan Thompson with still 3:08 left in the second quarter. After the veteran Golden State Warriors big man rebounded the ball, Kyrie Irving attempted to snatch it from him. Thompson quickly went to into his face and the two had to be separated by the referees and some of their teammates.

After the testy incident, both players were slapped with a technical foul each, while J.R Smith also received one for his involvement. A review is expected to be done by the league office for possible sanctions hat need to be issued. However, since they both restrained themselves from throwing any punches, a fine or suspension seems unlikely at this point.
