Aside from being a six-time champion as the head coach of the New England Patriots and one of the greatest coaches in NFL, Bill Belichick can now also call himself a member of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition (PCSFN). This is after Belichick, along with other notable athletes and coaches from different sports, were appointed by President Donald Trump to the Council on two year terms.

Aside from the Patriots longtime mentor, other athletes who were appointed include former New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera, former NFL running back Herschel Walker, former beach volleyball player and Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor, former MLB outfielder Johnny Damon, former college football coach Urban Meyer, and UFC mixed martial arts fighter Jorge Masvidal. Rivera, Walker, and Treanor, were all named as co-chairs of the council, while the rest of the personalities were appointed as members.

A total of 29 people were appointed by Donald Trump to the council, according to Elizabeth Crisp of Newsweek.

One notable name missing from the list of appointees is San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, a five-time champion coach and one of the best coaches in NBA history who has the credentials to rival Belichick’s. But Popovich has repeatedly criticized Trump, including on his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to its website, the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition works to “increase sports participation among the youth while aiming to promote healthy lifestyles among all Americans.” The 30 members of the council will be tasked to “promote physical activity, good nutrition, and sports participation.”
