Todd Gurley appears to be going through the “sophomore slump.” He has only been able to gain a total of 98 yards in two games this season, and the Rams offense looks weak.

Gurley is going to be fine though; Fisher and company will find a way to get him open space. If Gurley manages to get any sign of light, he will burst through the tunnel.

The Rams offense just needs some time to develop a bit more. They have also been missing two rookie wide receivers who will open up the offense when they return. The offense has been ugly, but it will get better.

Last week, the Rams' offensive line took some strides at improvement. They were able to open up some holes for Gurley against a good Seahawks defense. Rams offensive lineman Roger Stafford recently talked to ESPN about what the team needs to do for Gurley:

“It's a group effort. Our entire team, we have to do a better job of blocking. Our receivers have to dig people out. And then we just have to be able to read and put ourselves in the best situation. I think the coaches are starting to do that for us. We're putting ourselves in some better situations so we can open up some holes for Todd.”

Gurley is the key to the Rams offense, and they know that. There is a pretty good reason why Jeff Fisher did not want anyone tackling Gurley in training camp. The team knows that they will only go as far as Gurley does.

Of course, he still cannot do it alone. There is no way the Rams can continue to play so poorly on offense and succeed.

The guy still has the talent; he is actually averaging more yards after contact then he is average yards. That is a telling sign for the hard times he has faced, but his ability has not gone anywhere. If the Rams continue to struggle, then Gurley could get a boost from another young gun, Jared Goff. While the Rams are not going to rush Goff onto the field, if he does step foot in the starting lineup, it could lead to big things.

Goff and Gurley are the future of this franchise, but the future is one that is still very much a work in progress.
