Remember when Carson Wentz seemed like the NFL's next perennial MVP candidate? Chris Carter certainly hasn't forgotten, and doesn't seem too concerned by the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback's checkered injury history, either.

On Tuesday's edition of First Things First, the FOX Sports analyst and Hall of Fame wide receiver showered Wentz with praise, predicting that he would enjoy the best season of his career in 2019.

“Carson Wentz is the guy that can run my franchise. He has everything that you would want,” Carter said. “You can't control if guys are going to get hurt, and there's only a few Brett Favres, Peyton Mannings out there. For me, what Carson Wentz has shown has been enough for me to be able to believe that he has everything. He's a great athlete, he's tall, he's strong in the pocket, he can make plays… He can throw it deep, intermediate, how he can layer the football over the top of linebackers, all those things. He's such a superior passer to anyone else that's in the NFC East.

“So that's why I believe that the East is based on Carson Wentz, and I believe Howie Roseman, the things that they've added to him, to be able to help him out – we will see the best football of Carson Wentz's career,” he continued.

Wentz seemed well on his way to MVP honors in 2017, just his second year in the NFL, before suffering a torn ACL in Week 13. The Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl behind backup Nick Foles, who was also named Super Bowl MVP.

Wentz, still just 26, returned last season to start 11 games before suffering a back injury in December, again cutting his season short. Though clearly somewhat rusty while taking the field for the first time since undergoing knee surgery, Wentz nevertheless showed the promise in 2018 that still has him positioned as one of the league's best young signal-callers, throwing for 3,074 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing a career-best 69.6 percent of his passes.
