The Philadelphia Eagles have chosen to stay away from the cornerbacks available in free agency, but they could still land a formidable cornerback via trade. According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, there are ongoing discussions between the Detroit Lions and Eagles that involve Darius Slay.

Thus far in free agency, the likes of Byron Jones, James Bradberry, and Chris Harris Jr. have all been signed. Provided that, the Eagles are now limited on who they can sign at cornerback in free agency.

On Wednesday night, the Lions signed recently released Desmond Trufant to a two-year deal. While congratulating Trufant, Slay exclaimed on Twitter that he hopes that Trufant's signing “speeds up” the process of him being traded.

Since earlier in the offseason, Detroit has been fielding offers for Slay. The All-Pro cornerback has been upset with the Lions due to the fact that they refuse to give him an extension. Plus, it didn't help that Detroit sent his teammate and close friend, Quandre Diggs, to the Seattle Seahawks during the 2019 season.

Over the past six seasons, Darius Slay has been one of the most consistent cornerbacks in the NFL. In that six-year span, the former second-round pick has amassed 313 tackles, 99 deflections, and 19 interceptions.

As for the Eagles, they currently deploy a cornerback group that includes Rasul Douglas, Avonte Maddox, and Cre'von LeBlanc. By adding Slay, Philadelphia would finally have some assurance in the secondary in 2020.

Barring another team getting into the mix, the Eagles seem to be the front-runners to land the disgruntled cornerback in a trade. After not adding a corner in free agency, it appears that Philadelphia's plan all along was to acquire Slay.
