It is no secret that the Detroit Lions have been shopping Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay, who is slated to be traded away from the Motor City sooner rather than later. However, in an interesting turn of events, the Lions seem to have already found Slay's replacement even before actually shipping him out of town.

On Wednesday evening, it was reported that the Lions had come to terms with former Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant, who was previously let go by the NFC South franchise earlier in the week. As a result of landing with the Lions, Trufant has earned a two-year free agent contract worth a total of $21 million, $14 million coming in the form of guaranteed money.

Despite this awkward situation in Detroit, Slay seems to be taking things in stride as the veteran defensive back quickly took to Twitter to congratulate Trufant while also bringing up his own situation in the process.

Slay, who presently has just one year remaining on his current contract, remains set to earn a $10 million base salary next season. If the Lions somehow convince Slay to remain with the NFC North franchise, which remains highly likely, Detroit would have one of the best cornerback tandems in the entire league.

The Lions, of course, play in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL as the NFC North houses the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. With that being the case, the Lions could use all the help they can get these days—especially on defense.
