The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a disappointing performance against the New Orleans Saints in a blowout 48-7 loss on Sunday afternoon.

It featured Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz struggling to play efficiently as he completed 19-of-33 passes for 156 yards and three interceptions along with a career-worst 31.9 QB rating. During an interview with 94 WIP Sports Radio, head coach Doug Pederson voiced that he believes Wentz is trying to do too much.

“I think there comes a time with a quarterback, especially when things go a little sideways, that players begin to try to do things a little uncharacteristic of what they've done in the past,” Doug Pederson told Angelo Cataldi on Monday morning. “And so, there may be some of that, but there's so much confidence in him. We give him so much information, the way he handles and manages the game, that he does such a great job. With the quarterback position, because you're touching the ball every single snap, you want to make a play and you just have to guard against that. It's about making the plays that come to you, not necessarily chasing after plays.

“I love his aggressiveness. He is and will continue to be a great quarterback for us and we're excited about this week.”

It was a contest that saw the Saints grab full control on both sides of the ball as the game wore on. The Eagles simply had no answer defensively for New Orleans' high-powered offense led by star quarterback Drew Brees torching them for 363 passing yards and four touchdowns that played a big part in the 546 total offensive yards allowed.

This put plenty of pressure and the onus on Wentz to respond with scoring drives that put him in a tough spot of having to play catch up throughout essentially the final three quarters of the game. Philadelphia couldn't keep up with New Orleans that quickly became a one-sided affair.

Beyond that, this has put the Eagles in a tough spot through the final six games of the year with them sitting two games behind the Washington Redskins for the top spot in the NFC East standings. It has put a tremendous amount of importance in each game going forward as there are now serious questions about whether they can power back into the playoff picture. It now lies squarely on their shoulders to finish out the season strong to get back into the postseason picture, which will require Wentz to lead the way.
