The Philadelphia Eagles traded Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts this offseason, leaving Jalen Hurts as the presumptive starter after Hurts took over for Wentz at the tail end of last season. The Eagles didn't draft a quarterback but added veteran Joe Flacco and rookie Jamie Newman as free agents.

While it would seem starting Hurts is obvious, new Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has been hesitant to just come out and say the youngster is the definite QB1. Hurts was asked about this approach in a media session on Wednesday and doesn't appear too fazed by it. In fact, Hurts had some wise words.

Via PFT's Josh Alper:

“No one is above that,” Hurts said. “Everybody’s got to go to work. Rent is due every day. It’s always been that way for me. Always been a get better mentality every day. Grow every day, be a better leader every day, be a better quarterback every day. When that rent’s due, I don’t plan on missing payments.”

The Eagles quarterback is clearly ready to earn that starting job and just wants to focus on getting better. Hurts is not expecting the gig to be handed to him on a silver platter, so proving himself in training camp is the only way to go.

The 22-year-old had flashes as a rookie for the Eagles, but he didn't exactly light it up in his four starts. For the season, he completed 52.0% of his passes for 1,061 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions for a quarterback rating of 77.6.

The Eagles went just 4-11-1 last season. In addition to Wentz having a new home, Doug Pederson was fired as head coach, resulting in Sirianni taking over. Philly is hoping to return to the playoffs after three straight appearances, including a Super Bowl victory.
