The last two years, Carson Wentz was unable to make it through the season under center for the Philadelphia Eagles due to injuries that knocked him out both times, and both times, Nick Foles relieved him.

Now, not only due to the Eagles no longer have the insurance of Foles, but their primary backup, Nate Sudfeld, suffered a broken wrist during his preseason debut on Thursday night and is expected to miss six weeks after undergoing surgery, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Sudfeld completed 10 of his 18 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown before exiting Philadelphia's 27-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Indiana University, was originally selected by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round (187th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

However, he never actually threw a pass for the Redskins and was ultimately cut just before his second season. He then joined Philadelphia's practice squad, and in November 2017, the Eagles promoted him to the active roster.

He completed 19 of his 23 passes for 134 yards during one lone appearance for Philly in 2017, and this past year, he completed just one pass, which ended up being a 22-yard touchdown.

After seeing Foles walk to the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, the Eagles re-signed Sudfeld on a one-year deal.

Obviously, Philadelphia is hoping it won't need to go a backup quarterback yet again in 2019, as Wentz seems to have recovered from back issues that prematurely ended his 2018 campaign and is expected to be under center for the Birds in Week 1 next month.
