The Philadelphia Eagles are working on their roster cuts, and it appears a veteran is a casualty. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Eagles are releasing veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick. However, they could bring him back during the season.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a rather young cornerback group. With that in mind, Orlando Scandrick made sense as a veteran leader. Someone that could help the younger players learn and grow. Somewhat of a mentor.

However, the numbers game came back to hurt him. The Eagles have too many young cornerbacks they think highly of. Instead of cutting one of them, they went with Scandrick. This makes sense because there's a much lower chance of a team scooping up Scandrick than they are of going after one of the younger players.

That being said, the Eagles could bring him back early in the season.

For now, it appears the Eagles will ride with Ronald Darby, Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, and Avonte Maddox, with Jalen Mills and Cre'Von LeBlanc hopefully being healthy enough to start the year.

The Philadelphia Eagles square off with the Washington Redskins in Week 1 of the regular season. Washington has a very inexperienced wide receiver corps, so it should be fun to see two young groups going head to head.

As for Orlando Scandrick, it's unclear where he goes from here. The cornerback will be 32 throughout the season, and the market for him hasn't exactly been popping lately. His best hope is probably for the Eagles to bring him back in week 2.

The fact that Week 2 was specified suggests that the Eagles will be placing someone on the IR or have a plan with their roster. If they don't bring Scandrick back, it might be some time before another team starts calling. He might need to wait patiently for injuries to force a team to look for a veteran free agent.

Once that happens, Orlando Scandrick will need to prove he can still hold his own in the NFL. He did it once before, he can do it again.
