The Philadelphia Eagles are finally getting some help at receiver, and they’re turning to an old friend. The defending champions are bringing back wide receiver Jordan Matthews, Jordan Schultz of Yahoo! Sports reports.

The Eagles have since confirmed their signing of Matthews, who worked out for the team on Tuesday. Mike Wallace will make way for Matthews on the roster as the veteran heads to IR due to a broken fibula.

Matthews, 26, was a second-round pick by the Eagles in 2014. He spent three productive seasons in Philly, racking up 225 catches for 2,673 yards and 19 touchdowns in 46 games (36 starts).

However, he was traded last season to the Buffalo Bills along with a third-round pick in exchange for cornerback Ronald Darby. Matthews battled injuries in Buffalo, which he blamed on the Philly medical staff. He played just 10 games in his lone season in Buffalo, grabbing 25 catches for 282 yards and one touchdown.

After garnering interest in free agency, Matthews eventually signed for the New England Patriots this offseason. However, he suffered a significant hamstring injury just before training camp and was subsequently released.

Matthews now returns to an Eagles team which is in need of help at receiver with Alshon Jeffery still not yet back following offseason shoulder surgery. With Mack Hollins and Wallace both out with long-term injuries, the Eagles were left with Nelson Agholor and Kamar Aiken as their main options at wide receiver.

According to Schultz, Matthews should be back for the Eagles’ Week 3 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. That would see Matthews link up with returning quarterback Carson Wentz, with whom he has an excellent relationship.
