The Philadelphia Eagles will be without their top target in Sunday's bout with the New York Giants. Tight end Zach Ertz is out for the postseason-clinching matchup with back and ribs injuries.

Ertz suffered a fractured rib in the first quarter of Week 16's win over the Dallas Cowboys. He returned to the game, tallying four catches for 28 yards. There is a possibility that he makes another return.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Ertz could play next week, in the first round of the playoffs, if the Eagles were to get to the postseason. His injury is worse than thought; however, as, during the win, the tight end also suffered a lacerated kidney that had him hospitalized on Sunday.

However, for now, Philadelphia is playing it safe with the injury.

“Medically, I want to make sure he's 100 percent,” coach Doug Pederson said on the matter, via Tim McManus of ESPN. “Zach is a tough guy. I know he wants to be out there, but at the same time, I'm not going to risk anything further for him personally.”

Ertz is the Eagles’ No. 1 receiver. On the season, he has 88 receptions for 916 yards and six touchdowns, all team-leading statistics.

A three-time Pro-Bowler, he is one of the NFL’s best at his respective position. He plays the role of a “move tight end,” taking snaps from the Y, slot or out-wide and is Carson Wentz’s favorite target.

The Eagles' top receiving options on Sunday could be tight end Dallas Goedert and wide receiver Greg Ward Jr.
