Europa Universalis 4‘s latest DLC, Leviathan bombed so hard. So hard that Paradox, the game's developers, had to come out and apologize.

Paradox apologizes for the poor quality of recent releases, including Europa Universalis 4 Leviathan

Fans love the grand strategy game Europa Universalis, the business-centric sister to Paradox's Crusader Kings. However, the latest game in the series has been in a lot of hot water. The first DLC expansion for the game, Europa Universalis 4 Leviathan, flopped so bad. The expansion currently holds a series low 11.4% approval rating on Steam. This poor performance put Paradox in full community management mode, with Paradox Tinto Studio Manager Johan Andersson stepping in.

In a post in the EU4 forums, Andersson says,

Leviathan was one of the worst releases we have had, and follows a long trail of low quality releases starting back with Golden Century for EU4.”

Fans feel that Paradox has been neglecting issues on the base game in favor of DLCs to sell. In fact, many of the expansions and DLCs may not work properly because of bugs and glitches in the base game. To appease the fans, Paradox had to promise that moving forward, they will first have to fix underlying issues first. This starts with Patch 1.31.3 which comes out later this week.

This is of course a rough first expansion for the team and the studio, but it's far from the end,” says Andersson. “We have recruited a set of great individuals, with a huge passion for the game, to form Paradox Tinto, giving us a bright future for Europa Universalis.”

Europa Universalis is a well-loved franchise, and we really hope that Paradox will be able to turn things around.
