EVE Online defies all conventions in video gaming. That's the exact reason why it's an intimidating monolith of a game. CCP Games is well aware of this, and they're trying to change that with EVE Academy. During the PC Gamer presentation at E3 2021, CCP Games put out a trailer for EVE Academy.

EVE Academy is a web-based tutorial tool for EVE Online. It makes the massive sandbox MMO easier to understand and to ease in new players to the game. While EVE Online intends to be completely free-form, it's what could turn off some players. If you're someone who likes getting told what they need to do instead of setting your own goals in the game, then you might appreciate EVE Academy. The game doesn't put players into classes or archetypes, but for the purposes of the tutorial, it gives you different “career paths” that you can take on in EVE Online, based on how many of its players play the game. With these “career paths,” EVE Academy teaches you what you need to do to achieve your “career goals,” and ease up your entry to the EVE Online universe, easier than before.

However, this doesn't make the game any less forgiving, so don't go in thinking that you'll have an easy time. All of EVE Online‘s mechanics and features are left unchanged even with the introduction of EVE Academy, so don't think you will have training wheels going in. If you want to do your best joining EVE Online, then use EVE Academy to research ahead, and do your best based on what you've learned once you've logged into the game. Thankfully, CCP Games committed to updating the online resource tool moving towards the future, so no new mechanics will blindside you when they arrive.
