Veteran pass rusher Justin Houston was officially released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday afternoon, paving the way for him to find his next NFL home. As a result, it appears as though the Atlanta Falcons could become potential suitors for Houston this offseason.

Not only could Houston's presence benefit the Falcons on the field, but it could also help in the locker room. A veteran of the game, Houston can provide the struggling NFC South franchise with a rock-solid presence on the defensive side of the football, a notion that can be solidified by some recent words form Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

“I’ve been fortunate to get to know Justin over the last six seasons, and not only is he a talented football player, but he’s a tremendous person,” Reid said on Sunday afternoon, via Adam Teicher of ESPN. “He really helped set the tone, and I appreciate the work he put in with us. I wish him the best as he continues his career.”

The Falcons are still only a few years removed from an NFC championship and an appearance in the Super Bowl. They struggled last year, but they still have a number of players who made a Super Bowl run. With the core of the franchise remaining intact, mostly on the offensive side of the football, the Falcons could use a few pieces to bring the vision together. That Houston is currently a possibility for this roster bodes well for Atlanta. The Falcons are aiming to rebound in a hurry as they begin their 2019 offseason.
