A new report suggests that the Atlanta Falcons are getting closer to a new deal with Julio Jones, and it's a very sweet deal for the veteran.

According to the Atlanta Falcons' official site, the two parties are moving closer towards a deal that could be worth $20 million a year over a four or five-year contract extension. Assuming that this is the case, and not just a rumor, Jones could be looking at a $100 million deal, the second-biggest contract ever signed by a wide receiver.

It goes without saying, of course, that the deal with Jones is far from complete.

It also goes without saying that Julio Jones is well worth the asking price. During his tenure with the Falcons, Jones has been invited to six Pro Bowls, was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2015 after leading the league in receiving yards and receptions, and in 2016 when he helped lead the Atlanta Falcons to Super Bowl LI. Jones was also named second-team All-Pro twice, in 2017 and in 2018 after leading the league in receiving yards.

Bleacher Report has more details on what this extraordinary asking price means for the superstar:

“With a salary-cap increase of about $11 million per team, and those increases expected to continue into the near future, paying Jones that kind of cash could easily be done. Look for the total figure to approach $100 million, a number only one other receiver has earned in NFL history: Larry Fitzgerald in 2011, when he signed an eight-year, $120 million extension with the Arizona Cardinals.”

Stay tuned for more Julio Jones updates as they occur.
