Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is confident that wide receiver Calvin Ridley is prepared to take a big step forward during the 2020 season.

Ridley was on pace to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark during the 2019 season before an abdominal injury forced him to miss the last three games of the year.

Koetter has been impressed with what Ridley has accomplished the first couple years in the NFL, but he knows that with Ridley's talent, he is ready to take off during the 2020 season:

“Calvin has just exceptional speed and quickness,” Koetter said via the Atlanta Falcons team website. “His quick-twitch body movements are exceptional. I think Calvin will do nothing but get better the more he works with Matt [Ryan], the more he gains Matt's trust. I think there's some little things that Cal can work on that will really help him elevate.”

Koetter believes that Ridley has been able to beat cornerbacks because of his speed, but with the work during the offseason to clean up his route running is going to make him even more dangerous:

“I think he's always been able to beat his man just by pure speed and athleticism, and I think as he gets a little more consistent in his route running and understanding what is landmarks are, his depths of his routes are, I think you're going to see a jump in his game,” Koetter said. “Now, you say that, but we're also talking about a guy who, in his first two years in the league, has put up some pretty substantial numbers. But I think his talent is even higher than that.”

Ridley also lines up opposite Julio Jones, which gives him an advantage because most of the time they can't put another player over the top to try and take him away.
