Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones has been suffering from an illness this week and was sent home to recover ahead of this Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Falcons have had an extremely disappointing season and especially in recent weeks as Atlanta has lost five straight games. The Dirty Birds are two years removed from a Super Bowl appearance and while that goal seems farfetched this season, they can only hope to finish out strong for the next few weeks.

Injuries to the defense has really haunted the falcons all season after missing star linebacker Deion Jones for most of the season and safeties Ricardo Allen and Keanu Neal for the whole season. The offense has missed Pro Bowl running back Devonta Freeman nearly the entire season and the offense has looked incredibly stagnant at times this season. There have been some bright spots including Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley and even tight end Austin Hooper. Hooper has made leaps and bounds to remain a valuable target for quarterback Matt Ryan.

The Falcons will need Jones very badly this week in a matchup they can not afford to lose and Jones will likely be shadowed by star cornerback Patrick Peterson so Calvin Ridley may have a big game. The Falcons are likely the favorites to win this game, but they have struggled mightily on a weekly basis so anything can happen. The one good bit of news is that Jones will indeed be able to play.
