The Atlanta Falcons are moving on from former Pro Bowl running back Devonta Freeman.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Falcons plan on releasing the former two-time Pro Bowl selection. The 28-year-old returned to a healthy campaign in 2019 after missing 14 games in 2018 due to groin surgery. While Freeman was able to remain on the field, he wasn't able to remain productive.

The veteran running back appeared and started in 14 games while mustering just 656 yards on 3.6 yards per carry. Although the Falcons remained committed to Freeman as the starting running back throughout the season, he just was never able to produce. He also had just two rushing touchdowns last season.

Freeman was never able to produce more than 88 yards in a single game last season. It was a further sign of his lack of explosion in his return from groin surgery.

The Florida State product was originally a fourth-round draft selection of the Falcons. He emerged as the team's starting running back during the 2015 campaign and immediately became a star. He was a Pro Bowl selection over his first two seasons as a starter and he led the league in rushing touchdowns in 2015 with 11.

However, he failed to regain his previous form in numerous opportunities last season. The Falcons will save more than $3 million by releasing the former Pro Bowler.
