After releasing seven-year veteran running back Devonta Freeman during the offseason, the Atlanta Falcons needed a new weapon to head the offense's ground game. The team took a chance on then-free agent rusher Todd Gurley and the move seems to be paying off thus far.

Falcons head coach Dan Quinn likes what he is seeing out of Gurley in training camp:

“The speed was the thing,” Quinn said to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “He out-ran the leverage on one play. On another one, he got to the edge and made a big play. I felt his speed for certain.”

“That was part of learning him and us as well,” he continued. “What’s the best plan for him. We are pleased with where we are it. We think we’ve got a good plan in place of how we’d do the right thing by him to make sure that he’s at his best on game days.”

Before landing in Atlanta, the Maryland native first made his name known with the Los Angeles Rams organization where he spent his first five seasons in the league. His stint with the team turned out to be eventful as he grabbed multiple awards to his name. He became a 2015 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, two-time NFL rushing touchdowns leader, two-time first-team All-Pro, and a three-time Pro Bowler. The Falcons are hoping he can recapture that success in Atlanta.

A handful of knee injuries have limited Gurley's productivity in recent seasons which led to his departure from Los Angeles. Now being in full health, the former Georgia Bulldog is aiming to revive his career and play a pivotal role in the Falcons' offense in the upcoming season.
