People mostly think of FAU football coach Lane Kiffin as a running gag. Between jokes on social media to some of his own doing, it is why the reaction to our “root for Lane Kiffin” piece wasn't too shocking. Still, there's some human left in his bones, like him or not.

The football team was forced to stay in Madison the week prior and after its game against Wisconsin. To the latter's credit, it did everything it could to accommodate an FAU team in need of help. From lodging to food, Wisconsin stepped up in a big way.

This was not lost on Kiffin, who took out an ad in a paper to thank the university and its people.

Dear Badger Nation,

Thank you! You have opened your hearts to our football program for the past six days in our time of need. Every single person on campus and in the community was kind and courteous. The Badger Football Team even shared their home with us and made our stay as comfortable as possible. We are forever indebted to the Wisconsin Athletic Department, Athletic Director Barry Alvarez and Head Coach Paul Chryst for their collective generosity. We wish you nothing but the best of luck with the rest of your football season. ON WISCONSIN!

Sincerely,

Lane Kiffin

The Kiffin era at FAU is off to a tough start. To be fair to everyone involved with a program attempting to build, there have been some obvious circumstances that have prevented any honest growth at this point.

No matter what you think of Kiffin in general, this was a classy move.
