Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford responded to rumors that they are taking a backseat in developing the next Borderlands game. According to rumors, Gearbox merely “assists” or is “co-developing” the Borderlands 3 sequel. In a tweet, he responded:

“I am told of rumors that Gearbox is “assisting” or “co-developing” another Borderlands game (or a new spin-off game),” Pitchford says. “These rumors are NOT accurate. Gearbox is lead dev of any future games in the Borderlands franchise (or any Borderlands adjacent games) with no co-development.”

Pitchford's statement can easily qualify for a confirmation that they are indeed working on a new BL game. However, if that wasn't clear enough, he followed up with another tweet.

“More: We are definitely working on some amazing stuff that, I hope, will surprise and delight you. Plug: if anyone out there has Skills-To-Pay-Bulls and wants to get in on some Borderlands action, we're working on the big one.”

A link to Gearbox's Careers page on their website follows the tweet's text, suggesting that Gearbox currently looks for new hires. One could easily assume that they are indeed working on the next Borderlands. However, until a decisive announcement's made, we should hold our breath.

Last week, leaked court documents revealed that Epic Games paid Gearbox $115 million for Borderlands 3. The payment secured the game for the Epic Games Store for a year on PC, after which it launched on Steam. We don't have any news and official confirmation yet for the next BL game, but a similar deal may come again in the future.
