Borderlands 3 launch day most profitable day for Epic Games Store history

The leaked court documents related to the Epic vs. Apple court battle revealed lots of financial details for the company. Apart from company earnings (which includes the billions it earned from Fortnite), they also showed how Epic spends its money. Apparently, they've spent billions to get publishers to release their games in timed exclusivity on the Epic Games Store. For Borderlands 3 alone, which launched exclusively on EGS for PC users for a whole year, Epic spent $115 million.

Epic's efforts to defeat Steam's lead in the PC gaming marketplace. Epic's efforts seem to shake up the market, with Microsoft responding by lowering their cut on sales made on PC to 12%. However, Steam itself won't budge in spite of Epic's efforts. The unmoving giant still enjoys a strong lead in the PC gaming market, with a lot of loyal users still using Steam as their primary storefronts. However, it won't take much longer until Epic overtakes Steam, given the many benefits and perks it gives its users. As for Borderlands 3 itself, it launched successfully, selling 5 million units in just five days, despite the exclusivity.
