The general consensus is that the New York Giants will select Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins with the sixth overall pick in next month's NFL Draft if he is still available.

On Tuesday night, the Giants had dinner with Haskins, an obvious indication that New York is, indeed, interested in the signal-caller.

Haskins, a New Jersey native who grew up a Giants fan, said it was a good time.

“Had some good talks, we had some good food and it was a great experience,” he said, according to Giants beat writer Art Stapleton.

With Eli Manning now 38 years old and having just one year remaining on his deal, it would absolutely make sense for New York to take a quarterback with its first pick, and barring a change in circumstances, it's looking like that is what the Giants will do.

Haskins is coming off of a tremendous sophomore season at Ohio State, throwing for 4,831 yards, 50 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while completing 70 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 174.1.

While Oklahoma quarterback is expected to go to No. 1 overall to the Arizona Cardinals, there are some that feel that Haskins is actually the best quarterback in this draft class.

The Giants won just five games this past season and have made the playoffs just once since last winning the Super Bowl during the 2011-12 campaign.

New York has not had this long of a playoff drought since 1980, when the Giants missed the playoffs 17 seasons in a row dating back to 1964.
