In the last few days, the New York Giants have ramped up their efforts towards working out a new lucrative extension with All-Pro wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

New York had previously been hesitant to head in that direction, but Beckham Jr. has proven to be progressively working his way back from a surgically-repaired ankle while deciding to participate in all team-related activities despite being in the final year of his deal. According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, co-owner John Mara has voiced that the team is prepared to go as long as it takes to work out a new contract with the star wideout.

He said there is no deadline that would prevent the Giants from negotiating into the regular season if necessary.

“I don’t think we have any deadline imposed on that,” Mara said. “We’ll talk as long as it takes.”

Things have certainly shifted entirely from earlier in the offseason where the team had previously considered moving Beckham Jr. after his off-the-field incident that involved a video of him possibly indulging with some questionable substance in a hotel room. Since then, he has taken up a more serious approach with his craft by working his through his surgically-repaired ankle that has him on track to make a return to the field to start the 2018 season.

Beckham Jr. will likely get back on track to quickly showing that he is one of the game's best wide receivers behind his elite level of production that saw him post at least 90 catches, 1,300 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons in the league. His performance on the field could quickly put him in line to receive a lucrative deal next offseason if he were to hit the free agent market.

At the same time, there is a notion that Beckham Jr. may have a target deadline for an extension to get done prior to the start of the 2018 season. There is roughly over a month until Week 1 of the regular season that should provide both sides with plenty of time to work out a new contract.
