A scary play occurred late in the New York Giants Week 15 clash against the Dallas Cowboys. On a meaningless fourth-quarter play, Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard went down with what appeared to be a potentially serious leg injury. Per Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, Shepard went to the ground in pain almost immediately after stepping off the line of scrimmage during the play, in what was a harrowing non-contact injury.

The cart immediately came out for Shepard who was escorted off the field, visibly in pain.

The injury came virtually out of nowhere, as Shepard wasn't touched by a defender before hitting the ground in pain. David J. Chao, the ProFootballDoc, tweeted that he believes Shepard suffered a torn left Achilles, which is a brutal injury especially for a wide receiver, and would likely see him sidelined for the rest of the season, into the 2022 campaign.

Shepard will undergo further testing on the injury, but it certainly doesn't bode well for the Giants' wideout, especially considering the nature of the non-contact injury.

The play is reminiscent of Jets' safety Marcus Maye's Achilles injury, during which the defensive back similarly collapsed to the ground as if he'd had his heel stepped on, despite no one making contact with him.

Prior to his injury, Shepard had caught two receptions for 15 yards in the 21-6 loss to the Cowboys. On the year, the 28-year-old has 34 receptions for 351 yards and a touchdown. We're praying for Shepard to have a speedy recovery and get back out on the field in time for next season.
