The Los Angeles Rams won't be playing in the playoffs, and a big reason is the play of quarterback Jared Goff. He has shown some glimpses of still being a franchise quarterback, but he has also showed some signs that the Rams made a big mistake signing him to a long term extension. So overall what grade should he get for his play through 16 weeks? Let's break it all down.

Goff's good

There hasn't been a whole lot of good this season, but there have been a few games where he has had some success. Through the first couple of seasons, Goff really struggled on the road but that hasn't so much been the case this year. In late October, Goff threw for 268 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

In early December he went on the road to Arizona and had his second-best game of the year throwing for 424 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

All of the struggles for offense also weren't on Goff. Early in the season, the running game wasn't there, and at times Sean McVay hasn't called a gameplan that really gave the Rams a chance to win.

Goff's bad

There has been a lot more bad than good this season for Goff and it's the biggest reason the Rams aren't in the playoffs. To start, Goff has had a real interception problem, throwing 16 passes to the opposing teams. In each of the last three games, Goff has thrown at least one interception.

A perfect example of Goff's season and his struggles came early in the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He threw for 517 yards, and two touchdowns which is elite. The big issue was he threw three interceptions and that led to a loss that really hurt them in the playoff race.

The Rams defense hasn't been great, but they are ranked 17th in the league in scoring defense. The defense could have done more, but a good or great quarterback would have made up for bad games by a defense, and that isn't something Goff did.

Jared Goff earns a D+ because his team won't be making the playoffs. His stats haven't been terrible but being a franchise quarterback it all comes down to wins and losses. Goff had the following comment about missing the playoffs, which is a great quote to describe his season.

“It's extremely disappointing,” Goff said. via Fox News. “You never envision something like this when you start the year. It's not even close to the standard we want to hold. It's sickening.”
