The Memphis Grizzlies shocked the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday, with the former emerging with an unexpected blowout victory against LA, 140-114. Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant was in the very thick of the impressive victory, with the 6-foot-3 point guard logging 22 points (7-of-10 from the field, 7-of-8 from the line), four rebounds, nine assists, and a steal in the win.

Following anther noteworthy effort, the second overall pick was asked about his aspirations in his debut season on an individual level. Morant isn't exactly worried about that stuff:

“I'm not worried about the All-Star Game or being the rookie of the year,” he said, via ESPN. “My main goal is to stay humble and remain focused.”

In truth, Morant is the heavy favorite to win Rookie of the Year. Right now, the 20-year-old is averaging 17.8 points (on 47.7 percent shooting), 3.2 rebounds, and 6.6 assists on the season while shooting 40.0 percent on 3-pointers.

Guys like the Miami Heat's Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Herro, as well as P.J. Washington of the Charlotte Hornets might have a thing or two to say about this, but it is without question that Morant will be one of the top candidates by the end of the season.

Last summer's first overall pick, Zion Williamson, has yet to make his debut for the New Orleans Pelicans, and despite recent reports stating that his is now nearing a return, the Pelicans will ease him in delicately, so he probably won't be able to do enough this season to warrant the ROY award.

This leaves a clear path for Ja Morant to take home the award, even if he's not focusing on it right now.
