As the NBA world rests in suspended animation as teams and free agents await the free agency decision of Kawhi Leonard, one team is reportedly interested in bringing back one of its acquisitions from last season at the trade deadline. Per ESPN’s Tim McMahon, the Memphis Grizzlies will match any “reasonable” offer sheet that 27-year-old Delon Wright receives in restricted free agency.

Wright started his career with the Toronto Raptors and was a key cog in that team’s lethal bench lineup over the course of the past few seasons. However, Wright was included as a part of the Marc Gasol deal – and we all know how that turned out for Toronto.

As a member of the Grizzlies, Wright played extremely well, even piling up multiple triple-doubles across the 26 games he played for the franchise after the trade. Wright has shown improvement in each of his first four seasons in the NBA, and the former Utah Ute seems primed for a breakout following his promising stint with the Grizz.

In 26 games in Memphis, 11 of which were starts, Wright produced per-game averages of 12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.6 blocks – all of which would’ve been career-highs had he sustained those numbers for an entire season.

With good size for a guard (6-foot-5, 6-foot-7½ wingspan) and solid defensive chops, the Grizzlies matching any offer sheet that Wright gets in free agency makes sense. Now if only he could iron out that jump shot…
