After getting blown out by the Indiana Pacers in the opener, the Memphis Grizzlies showed more hunger against the Atlanta Hawks this time and even made franchise history along the way.

The Grizzlies scored 77 points in the first half of their game with the Hawks, breaking their previous record of 74 for the most first-half points.

Memphis scored 74 points in a first half in two previous occasions, against the Chicago Bulls in 2003 and against the New York Knicks in 2008. Remarkably, just like the match with the Hawks, both previous records were set at home.

In the 2016-17 season, they came close to setting a new franchise record, scoring 72 first-half points in a March game against the Pacers.

Surprisingly, the Grizzlies got a huge boost from an unlikely player in setting the new franchise high. Garrett Temple notched 20 points in the first half to pace Memphis, while rookie Jaren Jackson Jr. added 12.

Mike Conley and Marc Gasol chipped in 11 points apiece, while five other players also put their names on the scoresheet.

Memphis recently received a 28-point thrashing at the hands of the Pacers, which was Indiana’s biggest winning margin in franchise history. With that said, the Grizzlies couldn’t wish for a better bounce-back performance than this.
