Jose Ramirez didn't need to prove that he was worth the massive contract extension he just signed with the Cleveland Guardians. The star third baseman is one of the best players in MLB and has the body of work to back up his new $141 million deal.

Still, Ramirez proved he was worth it anyway. Through the Guardians' first six games of the season, he has tallied six hits and 14 runs batted in. Since 1920, when RBI became an official stat, only one other player (Philadelphia Phillies left fielder Pat Burrell) has matched those numbers.

Along with rookie sensation Steven Kwan, Ramirez is off to a phenomenal start to the 2022 season. Trade rumors surrounded the three-time All-Star heading into this season. Cleveland was on the verge of trading him before finally agreeing to a contract extension.

So far in the young season, Ramirez leads the majors in RBI and total bases (26) while tying with Eric Hosmer of the San Diego Padres for the most hits. Several other Guardians players are off to great starts at the plate, too. Kwan leads the majors in on-base percentage and Owen Miller leads the majors in slugging percentage and tying with Hosmer for the most doubles.

Jose Ramirez will be Cleveland's most important hitter this season. The pressure will be on him to keep the team going through the entire course of the season. They could be a surprise contender for the AL Central if they can keep hitting at a high level, even if their historic feats become fewer and further between.
