The Atlanta Hawks are hopeful that rookie Cam Reddish will be ready for the start of training camp next month.

Reddish, the 10th overall pick in this year's NBA Draft, is still recovering from the groin injury he suffered during the last NCAA season. He already underwent successful surgery back in May.

According to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner, there have been some slight setbacks regarding Cam's recovery, but the team still expects him to be 100 percent healthy when the training camp begins on September 30.

I was told Wednesday that he still hasn’t been cleared to practice and is “getting closer” to returning. When exactly that’ll happen is something I obviously don’t know. The original timetable to return fully healthy when he underwent core-muscle surgery in June — a minor procedure — was six weeks. The recovery has lasted double the expected timetable so far.

Training camp starts at the end of next month, so there’s still time to be ready for that, and I was told that the plan/hope is for Reddish to be back by then, but he’s still losing valuable time on the court. Kevin Huerter was out for most of last summer, and it showed in the preseason and the first few games of the year. It won’t be a surprise if that happens to Reddish, too.

It doesn’t seem like there are any long-term concerns with Reddish, and there’s just no need to rush him back right now when the regular season doesn’t start for almost two months. The team was ultra cautious with injuries and recovery last season, so this could just be the training staff making sure Reddish doesn’t do anything unless he’s fully healthy.

According to reports, the Hawks have already reported to the team's practice facility on Monday for some organized workouts. However, it didn't say if Cam Reddish showed up or if he participated in any of the drills.

If Reddish will indeed be cleared for all basketball-related activities, the Hawks will have an opportunity to see how well he plays with the team's young core during training camp, and possibly, even the preseason.
