After an unpredictable run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, the Atlanta Hawks are looking to stay right in the mix and take the next step as soon as possible.

They will bring back most of the same core from a year ago after resigning John Collins in the offseason and now, Clint Capela has agreed to a 2-year, $46 million extension with the Hawks as well.

As Adrian Wojnarowski noted, the deal keep Capela in Atlanta for four more years since he already had two years left on his current deal.

Capela was a big part of the successes the Hawks had last season as a huge rim protector and a pick-and-roll partner for star guard Trae Young.

The center for Atlanta put up monster stats in averaging 15.2 points per game to go along with an NBA leading 14.3 rebounds per contest. He also chimed in with 2 blocks per game, nearing the top of the league in that department as well.

Capela really flies under the radar in the landscape of the NBA but the Hawks know how critical he is to the operation for the team to succeed in the long run.

An extension made sense for both parties involved and the Hawks now have their trio of Young, Collins and Capela locked in for years to come.

The next step for the Hawks is getting over that final hump in the Eastern Conference. They got so close a year ago before getting booted by the Milwaukee Bucks but bringing back Collins and giving Capela an extension assures the Hawks aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
