NBA legend Vince Carter spent his last two seasons in the league with the Atlanta Hawks, serving as a mentor to some of the young players on the roster.

During a recent interview with ClutchPoints, Hawks star Trae Young discussed some of the best advice Carter gave him.

“I wish he would've given more advice on his golfing game,” Young said jokingly. “But I think some of the best advice he's ever given me was that after being named an All-Star this season, he told me how from here on out, it's now expected for me to keep perfoming at an All-Star level. He told me don't worry about that and just focus on winning and how to get this team to the next level. But having a veteran player like him tell me that I can be that person that can lead our team to the next level, was just really gratifying for me.”

This season, Young took his game to the next level, averaging an astounding 29.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game. However, despite his astonishing stats, the Hawks finished with a disappointing record of a 20-47, the league’s fourth-worst record.

Nevertheless, the Hawks certainly have a bright future in their young offensive core. Next season, Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter will be in their second year, and Kevin Huerter will be in his third. Furthermore, they'll have a lottery pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and will finally be able to integrate Clint Capela into the mix alongside John Collins in the frontcourt.

Atlanta has a lot of talent, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see them challenging for a playoff spot in 2020-21. Young will be the centerpiece of any playoff charge, but he'll need help for the Hawks to make a big leap.
