There were a ton of rumors leading up to the 2022 NBA Draft that the Atlanta Hawks were likely going to trade John Collins. It basically seemed like a foregone conclusion that he would get dealt.

Well, now it's looking like a Collins trade is unlikely … at least for now:

Something could still come together on Thursday night, or perhaps Collins still gets traded later in the offseason. But it would be a bit of an upset if he's not dealt during the draft given just how many rumors suggested he was going to be moved.

Of course, the Hawks don't want to just give Collins away. He's a very good player who has even become underrated at this point. There were rumors about the Sacramento Kings being involved in Collins trade talks, but the Kings' No. 4 pick (which became Keegan Murray) was apparently not a part of those conversations and the offer wasn't great.

Atlanta has been rumored to be planning big moves this offseason after a disappointing 2021-22 campaign, which followed a surprise run to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Hawks want to shake things up around Trae Young, with almost everybody else on the roster potentially up for grabs in trades. Collins has obviously been at the top of that list, but for now it doesn't seem as if he's going anywhere.

As for Atlanta and the 2022 NBA Draft, the franchise took Duke product AJ Griffin with the No. 16 pick. Some viewed Griffin as a possible top-10 pick, so this could be a steal.
