Minnesota Timberwolves estranged forward Jimmy Butler has recently expressed deep interest in the Miami Heat as the frontrunner for his services, yet the internet remains undefeated when it comes to digging up old dirt.

Butler had once been on record saying he would never wear a Miami Heat jersey… and boy how things have changed.

Butler's quote came at the time LeBron James was leading the Heat to four straight NBA Finals appearances (the top superteam to hate on of the early decade). The now four-time All-Star was only a couple of years removed from his time at Marquette University, still hoping to carve his niche in the league as a defense-first small forward.

Now in the midst of a potential five-year, $190 million extension coming into the last year of his 20s, Butler views the Heat as the primary candidate for his talents after a quick fallout with the Timberwolves young core and coach Tom Thibodeau.

It's hard to say if Jimmy Butler ever envisioned being in this position years down the road, but this magazine clip will likely serve as a lesson to all with hopes to stay clean of embarrassing headlines — never say never. You know, because you never know.
