The Miami Heat were hit with some unfortunate news when it was reported that Victor Oladipo was set to undergo season-ending surgery ahead of the playoffs. After acquiring Oladipo at the trade deadline, he appeared in just four games and will be out for the entirety of the playoff run. However, various reports have surfaced regarding his return for next season, or rather, his unavailability for next season.

“They haven't announced it, but there's a good chance Oladipo's gonna miss all of next season,” ESPN's Brian Windhorst said according to Bleacher Report.

That would be devastating for Miami, who were hoping Oladipo could be a key contributor in their quest for an NBA title and he could become a star next to Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. However, other reports suggest a but of optimism regarding Oladipo's return for next year. According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Oladipo's return will depend on how the healing process goes.

Either way, it's not a good sign for Oladipo. He is set to hit the open market in the summer and now serious questions circle regarding whether or not Miami will choose to re-sign him. His desire to remain with the Heat is not a secret, and he recently purchased a house in the area, further cementing his plans on remaining in Florida.

Bottom line is, nobody has any clue when Oladipo returns. He could be out next season, he could be out for three months, he could be out for six months. Who on Earth knows? Even Oladipo doesn't know.

The Heat are hoping for the best-case scenario and will be closely monitoring his progress and recovery before he hits the open market.
