For the first time in his basketball life, dating all the way back to when he first started playing organized basketball as a kid in Pennsylvania, Charlotte Hornets small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist hasn't played in two games in a row despite being healthy.

Kidd-Gilchrist is out of the team's playing rotation moving forward, a circumstance the former No. 2 overall pick is not used to since he's always been one of the best players on the teams he's been on.

Here's what he had to say about his current situation with the Hornets:

“I’m locked into the game plan and my teammates,” Kidd-Gilchrist told Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer. “I’m taking this game-by-game, but it’s really tough. I always stay positive. And ready.

“I have a lot of love for Charlotte, for the fans, for this team and my teammates. I did all (Borrego has) asked and I did all I expect out of myself. Hey, I don’t know (about what’s next). But I can only control what I control … I’ve been here a long time, grown from a boy to a man. It’s never fun not playing, but I just don’t know.”

In 54 games this season for the Hornets, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has averaged 7.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest while shooting 47.9 percent from the field. He has played in 411 games for the franchise and been with the organization since 2012.

The Hornets are 29-34 on the season, good for eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
