Not wanting his season to end on Monday, Celtics All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas led Boston past the Wizards in Game 7 of their second round series. The Celtics now face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

In order to get past the Wizards, Thomas spent Sunday night studying game tape. But Thomas didn't watch film of the Wizards and Celtics. Instead, he went all the way to 2008 to watch the second-round series between Boston and Cleveland.

Boston won that that series in seven games and in Game 7, Paul Pierce and LeBron James had an epic matchup.

From Thomas' postgame interview (via NESN):

“I thought about it a lot,” Thomas said. “All day and night I watched Paul Pierce vs. LeBron James and how special that was, two superstars going at it, guarding each other and it was a historic game. I definitely did my studying and I knew it was going to be a big game tonight, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy at all and we came out on top.”

Watching that classic playoff game clearly puts Thomas in the right mentality to take on the Wizards. And thanks to his superb play, the Celtics are now just four wins away from a trip to the NBA Finals.
