Yannick Ngaokue has expressed that he would prefer to leave the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason, but the team is refusing to allow him to walk without getting something in return. According to Jacksonville's official Twitter account, the Jaguars have placed their franchise tag on Ngakoue.

Earlier this month, Ngakoue exclaimed on Twitter that he no longer has any interest in signing a long-term contract with the Jaguars. At the same time, it became apparent that Jacksonville was going to utilize their franchise tag on Ngakoue.

Given that, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Jaguars went through with their plan of using their franchise tag on Ngakoue. But considering Ngakoue's fractured relationship with the franchise, it doesn't appear this plan will end well for Jacksonville.

Seeing that the Jaguars placed the non-exclusive rights on Ngakoue, he is free to sign with another team in free agency. However, whatever team chooses to offer Ngakoue a contract, Jacksonville has an opportunity to match it.

In the event that the Jaguars don't match it, the team would have to give them two first-round picks. Therefore, it's unlikely that a team is willing to part ways with two first-round picks to land Ngakoue.

Over the past four seasons, Ngakoue has compiled 37.5 sacks, 85 quarterback hits, and 14 forced fumbles for the Jaguars. As of this moment, it's hard to believe that Ngakoue signs the franchise tag unless it concludes in a tag-and-trade scenario. There's no doubt that some teams would be interested in acquiring the Pro Bowl defensive end if he were made available via trade.
