Some of the NBA stars are set to gather Monday night in Santa Monica for the 2018 NBA Awards. Among those who are going to be present is Utah Jazz Donovan Mitchell, who is definitely the passenger of this highly-suggestive van, per SB Nation.

For those who need a refresher, Mitchell once wore a sweater emblazoned with the definition of a rookie back prior to a game back in April. It was obviously a pot shot at Philadelphia 76ers rookie Ben Simmons, who, in Mitchell’s eyes at least, is not an NBA greenhorn. For Mitchell, that Simmons sat out an entire year after being selected by the Sixers in the 2016 NBA Draft should not be made as a convenient reason to deem the Philadelphia point guard eligible to win the Rookie of the Year award.

Simmons is Mitchell’s great rival, the only one, in fact, that stands in the way between the Jazz hotshot and the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy. Last season, Simmons put up 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in 81 games for the Sixers. He and Joel Embiid are the two biggest keys for Philly’s return to relevancy with Simmons acting as the team’s fulcrum.

Mitchell, was not too shabby either for the Jazz in 2017-18. With Mitchell inheriting the mantle of Gordon Hayward as the Jazz’s go-to guy on offense, Utah was able to go as deep as the second round of the playoffs. In his first year in the league, Mitchell averaged 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 79 games.

Mitchell vs. Simmons has been a debate that has been stretched for so long, and it’s just high time for tonight’s award show to settle the discussion once and for all.
