Utah Jazz star guard Donovan Mitchell is reportedly gaining significant interest from the Team USA for a roster spot in their FIBA World Cup team.

The basketball world championship is slated to take place in China from August 31 to September 15. Team USA has reportedly begun assembling their roster, with training camp for the international competition set in early August in Las Vegas.

According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, besides the likes of Kemba Walker, James Harden and Anthony Davis, Mitchell is gaining momentum to be given a Team USA roster spot.

Mitchell just finished his second season with the Jazz, averaging 23.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists — all significantly higher than his stats during his rookie season. However, he had his fair share of struggles early in the 2018-19 season before regaining his rhythm in the second half of the campaign, particularly after the All-Star break.

An explosive athlete who can drive to the rim at will, Mitchell will certainly be a solid addition to the Team USA, who is looking to form the best possible roster to prepare for the quadrennial affair.

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will coach the Team USA, alongside Golden State Warriors tactician Steve Kerr, Atlanta Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce and Villanova's Jay Wright.
