Christmas Day games are a special occasion in the NBA. More often than not, marquee matchups are featured on this special night, giving fans an extra treat during the holiday season. For Utah Jazz star guard Donovan Mitchell, playing on Christmas Day is still a huge honor, despite the circumstances surrounding this game.

“No, it’s Christmas. No way,” Donovan Mitchell said emphatically. “Doesn’t matter who is out there. You could be out there for playing against me. I don’t care because I’m playing on Christmas. It’s a blessing to be able to play on that day.”

The Jazz are set to play the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas Day, but there's some big factors surrounding the game. A COVID-19 outbreak has spread around the league, affecting multiple teams. The Mavs are one of those teams, as they won't be having their superstar forward Luka Doncic against the Jazz due to health and safety protocols.

Despite that, Mitchell is still looking forward to putting on a show for Jazz fans. He attributes this to being an NBA fan when he was younger and looking forward to the Christmas slate on television.

“You’re staying up watching those games, you’re on Christmas break… So we’ve got to go out there and put on a show and have fun … It would be nice if everybody was out there and healthy but I’ll be excited to play, I know my teammates are, I know Mavs are.”

With Mitchell still excited to play against the Mavs, Jazz fans attending the game will likely have a fun time.
